Jordan has always been a dream of mine and I can’t believe that I finally got the chance to visit this year with my best friend. After our last spiritual trip to Thailand we decided that it’s time for a girl trip in the Middle East and we had the best time ever.

We bought our plane tickets very spontaneously and found out that we land in Aqaba, which is a very nice fascinating city on the Red Sea coast of Jordan. The town is popular with it’s beautiful beaches, marine life, diving activities and oriental atmosphere, which makes it the perfect mix for a great holiday.

We took a short 2 days break in Aqaba before we left to explore the cultural sights of the country and we couldn’t be more grateful for the amazing time we had there thanks to the amazing hospitality of the hotel we choose during our stay – DoubleTree by Hilton Aqaba. And I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone travelling to the area.

Planning your holiday escape in Jordan far from the hustle and bustle of the tourist locations?

The Hotel

DoubleTree by Hilton Aqaba is perfectly located in the center of downtown Aqaba. It seems that this property had the best location in the city as it is right in the middle of the city with the Gulf of Aqaba just a few minutes away.

The service and the staff are seriously the reason I highly recommend this hotel. When we arrived the staff greeted us with their signature, warm DoubleTree Cookies and they were the perfect sweet beginning of our girl trip! The day after arrival the staff arranged a private car for us and gave us tickets to visit the private beach of Aqaba, which was pretty amazing and we had a great time under the warm sun with temperatures around 26-28 C in (which was pretty good for the beginning of February). It seems like Aqaba makes the perfect place for a romantic or family holiday. I would love to go back someday and spend at least 5 days to enjoy the sun and the beach there.

We really couldn’t ask for more. The hospitality of that place is second to none. Everyone was willing to assist if we needed anything and they did it with a smile on their face. On top of everything, when we asked if we could have something small prepared for us as we can’t go to breakfast on the day we had to leave, because we need to catch the flight to Amman at 7:00 am, they were the kindest to prepare us 2 packages with fresh fruits and salad and of course a huge box full of their delicious signature cookies for each of us. This really left us speechless. I really can’t recommend enough staying at
DoubleTree by Hilton Aqaba if you visit Aqaba, or if you just have 24 hours lay over before you head to experience Petra, Amman or other cultural places in Jordan.

The Room

We were accommodated in a Junior Suite which offered a balcony with a view of the Red Sea, a king bed, a separate living area with sofas, coffee table, TV, deck and of course a huge bathroom!

Our room was right over the pool that also offered breathtaking views of the sea and the boarder of Israel and Egypt. Even though it was winter time, the weather was still nice enough to enjoy some time in the pool before the sunset. There is a bar in the pool area for refreshments. The lobby area was open and inviting, and many other families and groups congregated there. There was also a spa/sauna on site, as well as above-average gym facilities.

The Highest Rooftop Bar in Aqaba

We had such an unforgettable time at the rooftop bar of Hilton DoubleTree, called Diwan the View Rooftop Lounge, which is the highest spot in Aqaba and the best place to enjoy the most spectacular “red sunset”over Red Sea. We really had the best moments there – speechless views in combination with delicious cocktails (thanks to Ella – the cutest bartender from the staff!)

Food & Drink

DoubleTree by Hilton Aqaba offers a blend of local and international dishes at their restaurants and bars. Jordanian food is a nice and strong blend of classic oriental Middle Eastern flavors. Like everywhere in the region, the focus in on local and fresh ingredients.

I loved all about the food at the daily breakfast buffet that the hotel offers. There were various choices such as local traditional breads, hummus, fresh fruits, vegetables and many others, that are served alongside other international and also healthy options with a variety that’s wide enough to please everyone’s taste.

The breakfast was very good, but we most enjoyed the dinner at the rooftop bar & lounge Diwan the View. The chef prepared us a special very classy dish, made of fresh local fish in the company of so many traditional appetizers like hummus, baba ganush, some spicy dips and also traditional bread. Everything was flavoured and plated with artistic perfection. The word that would perfectly describe this experience is:

I love Jordaninan food and here we had one of the best meals during our stay in this beautiful country.

Activities Around Aqaba

The Beach Club at DoubleTree by Hilton Aqaba is definitely one of the highlights. There is a private sandy beach with sun beds, umbrellas, and beach towel in Aqaba and you can receive tickets at any time for that beach from the lobby and a private car arrangement.

After you’re settled in, there is bar and lounge service so you can just lie back enjoy the sun and blue waters without worrying for drinks and snacks.

Another great activity that you can enjoy is a visit to Wadi Rum, which is about 40 minutes drive from Aqaba. You can rent a car to go, take a taxi and to a 1 day or 2 days trip to the most incredible desert, where you will find peace and serenity. Trust me, even 1 day there works and you will feel so relaxed and released from stress and anxiety after you come back. If you decide to do a trip to the desert and to stay at a Bedouin camp for the best experience I recommend doing it with this company. We did 1 day trip with 1 night stay at their camp and it was one of the highlights from our trip!
